Activities that bring the castle to life
Sant Ferran Castle, a living heritage site in the heart of Empordà
Sant Ferran Castle is the largest fortress of the modern era on the European continent. Definitely, a must-see when visiting the city of Figueres and the Empordà region.
Built in the 18th century, this colossal defensive structure covers more than 32 hectares and has miles of underground galleries. Furthermore, it is nowadays much more than an imposing architectural monument: it is an active centre of culture, memory and life.
Sant Ferran Castle is therefore not just a place to visit, but an experience to be lived. Our aim is to make the Castle a meeting point open to everybody, where the culture, historical knowledge and education are the main protagonists.
A referent of the cultural heritage of Catalonia
Our project emphasizes three main axes:
Historical and heritage discovery

The experience of the stronghold
With activities and offers inviting visitors to spend the day exploring the bastions, enjoying the views and discovering the hidden secrets and nooks of the Castle and its fascinating history.
Sant Ferran Castle is and will be a cultural reference point, open to knowledge, participation and connection with the area.
